Filtering and Monitoring

Higham Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils, including when they are using technology. The school uses Netsweeper, a specialist filtering and monitoring system, to help protect pupils from accessing inappropriate, harmful or illegal online content while using school devices, networks and internet services. Netsweeper continuously filters internet traffic and blocks content that is considered unsuitable for children, including content relating to violence, extremism, hate, self-harm, pornography, gambling and other age-inappropriate material.

In addition to filtering internet access, the school's monitoring systems help identify potential online safety concerns and alerts staff to activity that may indicate a safeguarding risk. Monitoring may identify searches, websites visited or online activity that suggests a pupil may be at risk of harm or may require support. Relevant safeguarding alerts are reviewed by designated members of staff and, where necessary, acted upon in accordance with the school's safeguarding and child protection procedures.

The school's filtering and monitoring arrangements are reviewed regularly to ensure they remain effective, age-appropriate and compliant with statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). While filtering and monitoring significantly reduce online risks, no system can guarantee complete protection from all online content or risks. The school therefore combines technical safeguards with education, supervision and the teaching of online safety to help pupils use technology safely and responsibly.

Microsoft Teams

The school uses Microsoft Teams to support learning and communication between home and school when required. Pupils are provided with individual login details, which should be kept secure. Parents and carers should supervise children when learning online and encourage safe and responsible use of technology.

Please see our Remote Learning and Microsoft Teams page for login guidance, user guides and support materials.
