Welcome to Giraffes!
Welcome children and parents to the academic year 2018 – 2019.
On the whole children have settled well into Giraffes class. It takes some time to get used to the different routines and the different expectations but the children are adapting brilliantly.
Handwriting sheets and common exception words have already been sent home but I am including them here too. Please try and help your child practise the un-joined cursive handwriting as often as possible.
I will try to upload photographs of children and the various activities that we do in class as often as possible.
If you are experiencing difficulties logging onto Mathletics, please go to the following link http://www.3plearning.com/tech/flash/ and download the newer version of Flash Player. If you are still experiencing problems after downloading the latest version, please inform the office.
Phonics Screening Check
Year 1 will be taking their Phonics Screening Check within the week commencing 10th June 2019.
What is the Y1 Phonics Screening Check?
The Phonics Screening Check is meant to show how well your child can use the phonics skills they’ve learned up to the end of Year 1, and to identify students who need extra phonics help. The Department for Education defines the checks as “short, light-touch assessments” that take about four to nine minutes to complete.
The Department for Education has published a detailed Q&A about the Screening Checks with more information about why non-words are included, and what allowances have been put in place for SEN students, please click on the following link:
