What does the PTA do?
Our main job is to raise funds to put back into the school. The majority of our funds are raised through events such as the school fairs and discos but we are also registered with three money generating schemes - EcoKids, Easyfundraising and Terracycle. We are always open to new ideas to raise funds for the school.
The money we all raise goes towards buying equipment for the children to use or funding events for the children to enjoy. Recent PTA contributions include:-
New rugs for Years R, 1 and 2 classrooms
Boys and girls football kits
Yearbooks for each child in Year 6
Over £900 of IT equipment
Funded the coach for the Jamie Oliver trip
Provided fish tank equipment
£200 for every class towards the cost of workshops or trips
We also fund smaller items such as providing each child with an Easter Egg, purchasing a Christmas present for each class, Christmas arts and crafts, even oranges on sports day!
We greatly appreciate your continued support and gladly welcome any help with future fundraising events. If you are able to donate your time, a raffle prize, ideas, skills or services however big or small, then please speak to any member of the PTA, email us at email@example.com or leave a message with the school office.
The PTA Committee meet on Thursdays or Wednesdays, once a month. We’d love to see you at our next meeting!
EcoKids, Easyfundraising & Terracycle
EcoKids is a recycling project used to raise funds for the school. We receive £600 per tonne, so the more bags we fill, the more money we raise. We generally have three collections throughout the school year. You can recycle clothes, soft toys, costume jewellery, handbags, paired shoes and bric-a-brac. Bags are given out before collection dates but you can always collect extras between collections from Mr Walton. Bags can be left any time by Mr Walton’s office.
Easyfundraising is an online scheme that you sign up to and then do your internet shopping through the easyfundraising website. Retailers donate a percentage of what you spend to the PTA at no extra cost to you. There are over 2700 retailers that take part in this scheme. Sign up to support the PTA at www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/ highampta or search for Higham Primary School PTA – Rochester
Terracycle is on a mission to eliminate the idea of waste. They collect items that were otherwise previously non-recyclable, or difficult-to-recycle. The collected waste is then converted into new products, ranging from recycled park benches to upcycled lunchboxes. We collect any brand of savoury or sweet biscuit wrapper and any brand of baby food pouch to be sent off for recycling in return for a donation to the PTA from Terracycle.
We run discos three to four times over the school year. The Infants disco runs from 6.00pm – 7.15pm and the Juniors from 7.30pm – 8.45pm. Snacks, drinks, glitter tattoos and glow sticks are all on sale.
We try to run two film nights throughout the school year. We give the children a choice of three films to choose from and provide a drink and sweets or popcorn for them to enjoy during the film.
We have recently launched a book amnesty to help replenish the school library. Bring in your unwanted children’s books and place them in the brown bin by the front of the school. Any books the school do not need for the library will be put on a stall at the next school fair. Unsold books will then be given to charity.
We've had a great start to our Book Amnesty and the recycling bin will be out every Friday for you to put any books in.
We hold various other fundraising events including selling Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts, doughnut days, selling tea and coffee at sports day and non-uniform days.
If you have any fundraising ideas please do let us know!
